The Kutler Center has programming for faculty as well. These opportunities allow faculty to experience interdisciplinary curriculum so that they are better able to offer something similar in their own classroom, even if the content is focused on a single discipline.
Faculty Fellowship
The Faculty Fellowship brings together a small group of Harvard-Westlake faculty for a six-month, interdisciplinary experience that includes educational travel. Each spring, fellows meet for three symposia exploring the fellowship theme and its potential impact on our program. In June, fellows travel together to explore the theme further in the field. In the fall, they return to Harvard-Westlake to debrief their experiences and set forth a plan to use the fellowship to transform their classes. Recent themes have included:
- Exploring the African-American Experience in the South--in History and Culture
- Japanese Art and Culture
- Dual Heritage-- Muslim and Jewish Influences in Spain and Morocco
- Impacts on and Appreciation of the Environment and Culture of Amazonian Peru
Interdisciplinary Cohort
The Kutler Center sponsors the Interdisciplinary Cohort on the Upper School Campus at Harvard-Westlake School. Bringing together a group of teachers that span the Upper School campus, this cohort meets monthly to learn about interdisciplinary opportunities as well as plan collaborations across the campus. The cohort has also been able to utilize greater Los Angeles for professional development opportunities.
Collaborations with Other Schools
The Kutler Center welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with other schools. Each year, schools visit the Kutler Center to learn about our program and to exchange ideas. If your school is interested in visiting or collaborating, please contact Jim Patterson, Director of the Kutler Center.
