Student Library Advisory Committee (SLAC)

What is SLAC?

SLAC is a student-led committee dedicated to shaping the library as a hub for creativity, collaboration, and exploration. By working together, members design programs, purpose projects, and develop initiatives that enhance the library experience for everyone.

Mission Statement

The Harvard-Westlake Student Library Advisory Committee (SLAC) strives to cultivate an inclusive environment that fosters learning and community. SLAC aims to improve the Mudd Library by creating a safe, creative, and versatile space — by students, for students.

Our Committees

SLAC is organized into subcommittees, each focusing on a different way to strengthen the library and its role in the school community:

  • Library Aide — provides day-to-day support and helps keep the library running smoothly.
  • Outreach & Community Service — builds connections beyond the library through service initiatives such as book donations, "Little Free Library" projects, and reading partnerships with local schools.
  • Book Appreciation — promotes reading through book-of-the-month selections, reading incentives, and student-run book clubs.
  • Events — plans engaging activities such as author talks, game nights, movie nights, and collaborations with student clubs and affinity groups.
  • Decor — enhances the library environment with creative displays, seasonal decor, and welcoming spaces.

Get Involved

SLAC meets every other Day 5 during Lunch in Mudd 100, with subcommittees collaborating on off cycles. Members are expected to contribute to their subcommittees and participate in events throughout the year. If you're interested in joining or collaborating with SLAC, stop by the library or reach out to the faculty advisor for SLAC, Mrs. Cox
