Seventh Grade Course

Geography and Culture

This course conveys fundamental historical, political, cultural, and geographic knowledge. Inquiry into world geography leads to an understanding of the use of land/resources and the interrelation of all human activity including politics, beliefs and values systems, migration, and globalization. The course includes an extended focus on the United States. Students explore the basic core principles of our democracy, including its unique governmental structure and the Constitution. A major goal of the course is to provide the kind of understanding of the structure and function of the federal government that will enable students to be informed and committed global citizens. Students develop effective study strategies, organizational skills, and highlighting and note-taking skills. They also develop interpersonal communication through class discussions, writing expository essays, oral presentations, and electronic communications.
